Programs and Services: Prevention

The Street Outreach Program

The Washington County Street Outreach program employs youth to work in direct outreach to their peers. They host community events and activities that are designed to draw teens together in a safe and welcoming environment.

The mission of the Street Outreach Program is to create a welcoming youth community in Washington County and to help teens stay safe and healthy. Teen Outreach Workers employed by the Bureau provide outreach to youth directly on the street, distribute information about services, and provide food and hygiene products to youth whose needs aren’t being met elsewhere. They educate young people at risk about substance abuse, domestic and sexual violence prevention, and other relevant topics. The outreach team play a direct role as ambassadors to youth who may be reluctant to ask for help on their own.
