Vermont Youth Development Corps (VYDC)
The Vermont Youth Development Corps (VYDC) is a statewide AmeriCorps Program that works through a network of youth service agencies to increase positive, skill building opportunities for young people. The program helps develop active, caring citizens and reduce delinquency and substance abuse among youth in Vermont.
VYDC members create and foster youth participation in after-school arts and crafts classes, sports opportunities, smoking cessation programs and community service projects. They also develop volunteer and financial resources that are needed to sustain after-school opportunities for years to come.
VYDC members devote 9 to 12 months of service to their communities. They undergo extensive training that helps them gain skills and develop a commitment to a life of active citizenship. They also receive a small living allowance and an education award that can be used for existing student loans or for the costs of attending college, graduate school, or trade school.
VYDC members begin their year of service in the fall but are recruited throughout the year. To learn more about how the program and how to become involved in the VYDC, contact Kadie Schaeffer at 229-9151 or email serveVTyouth@youthservicebureau.info |
